What IELTS score does North Island College require?

NIC also accepts CAEL 60 with 60 in writing and Cambridge C1 Advanced (174, with sub-scores of 165 for open entry or 169 for limited entry), and school English such as WASSCE English at C4, KCSE English at C+ or GCSE/IGCSE English at C. A three-to-four-year university degree from an accredited English-medium institution meets the requirement for both program types, but only in the countries NIC lists, which include Nigeria and the Philippines but not India or Pakistan.

Below the scores, NIC's language pathway accepts completion at partner schools. Sprott Shaw Language College's EPE certificate counts as IELTS 6.0 with 5.5 at 70% (with ENG 104 in your first NIC term), 6.0 with 6.0 for limited entry at 80%, and 6.5 with 6.0 for selective entry at 85%. Global Village GV6 at 80% and SELC EAP Level 3 at 75% count as IELTS 6.0.

NIC's scores decide admission only. IRCC sets no minimum English score for a study permit; any language condition is written into your letter of acceptance (see IELTS for a Canada study permit). The Post-Graduation Work Permit is a separate test again. IRCC's PGWP eligibility page asks for CLB 7 in all four skills if you graduate with a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree or from any other university program, and CLB 5 for any other college, polytechnic or non-university program, so a bachelor's degree earned at a college still needs CLB 7. On IELTS General Training, CLB 7 is 6.0 in every skill and CLB 5 is Reading 4.0 and Writing, Listening and Speaking 5.0 (IRCC score table). The PGWP takes IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General or PTE Core, not IELTS Academic, and college programs also face a field-of-study rule if you applied for your study permit on or after 1 November 2024 (see IELTS for the PGWP).
