What IELTS score do you need for St. Cloud State University?

Admission depends on your score tier. IELTS 7.5 or higher gives full admission to any graduate program. IELTS 6.5–7.0 gives provisional admission with required completion of EAP 511 and EAP 512. IELTS 5.5–6.0 gives conditional language admission and Intensive English Center Level 5 before graduate coursework. Below 5.5 you are not eligible. The TOEFL tiers are 4.5, 4.0 (no subscore below 4.0) and 3.5 on the new scale, or 100, 79–99 and 61–78 on the legacy scale. LanguageCERT Academic is accepted as a pilot at 75, 70–74 and 65–69. Duolingo, IELTS General Training and medium-of-instruction letters are listed as not accepted. You may be exempt as a US citizen or permanent resident, or with a degree from an accredited institution in the US, English-speaking Canada or a country where English is the only official language; the exempt list includes Australia, Ireland, New Zealand and the UK but not India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh or Nigeria.

A three-year bachelor's evaluated as fewer than 120 US semester credits is not eligible for full graduate admission. SCSU instead considers it for provisional admission, which needs an undergraduate GPA of 2.75 and IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 68 with no subscore below 16; you then take up to 30 undergraduate credits before moving into the graduate program. Undergraduates need TOEFL 61 with reading, writing and listening of 15 or more (3.5 on the new scale, with reading 3.5 and writing and listening 3.0), IELTS 5.5 (IELTS Indicator also accepted for now), PTE Academic 47, Duolingo 95, SAT reading 20 or ERW 400, ACT English 15, ELS Level 112 or LanguageCERT 60.
