The graduate catalogue sets TOEFL iBT 79, PTE 53 and IELTS 6.0 overall, and also lists GRE Verbal 146, Duolingo 100, completion of TAMUK's Intensive English Program at Advanced Plus, or the advanced level of the Texas Intensive English Program. TAMUK only accepts IELTS scores submitted electronically by the test centre, with no paper Test Report Forms; no institution code is needed, and you ask the test centre to send results to TAMUK Graduate Admissions. Applicants who completed their formal secondary or postsecondary education in listed countries, including Australia, Canada (except Quebec), Ghana, Ireland, Nigeria, New Zealand and the UK, are exempt. India and Pakistan are not listed. After review by the College of Graduate Studies, 12 or more credits with a C or better at a US institution or one in a listed country may also exempt you.

Most undergraduate programs accept TOEFL 61 or its equivalents: IELTS 6.0, PTE 44, SAT Reading 27 or ACT English 21. The Frank H. That means TAMUK asks for a higher IELTS score from undergraduate engineering applicants (6.5) than from graduate applicants (6.0).
