Harbours questions with sample answers

1

Do you live near a harbour?

No, not really. I currently live in quite a landlocked city, so the nearest port is probably a good three-hour drive away. Whenever I want to see the sea or watch boats, I usually have to plan a weekend trip down to the coast with some friends.

2

Have you ever visited a harbour?

Yes, quite a few times actually. Last summer, I went on holiday to a small coastal town in Cornwall, and we spent hours wandering along the quayside. It was lovely just watching the fishing vessels bring in their daily catch and soaking up the atmosphere.

3

What do people usually do when they visit a harbour?

I suppose it depends, but most tourists just enjoy strolling around, grabbing some fish and chips, or sitting at an outdoor café. Some people might take boat tours around the bay, while locals are often busy mooring their yachts or working on their boats.

4

Do you prefer natural harbours or modern, commercial ones?

Definitely natural ones. The traditional fishing harbours have so much charm and character compared to massive industrial ports. I really like seeing historic stone piers, colourful cottages, and small wooden boats rather than huge shipping containers and heavy machinery.

5

Would you like to live near a harbour in the future?

I'd love to, to be honest. There's something really calming about being right by the water and hearing the gentle sound of the tide. It would be amazing to wake up, look out the window, and see the boats bobbing in the marina every morning.

Details are invented. Use the shape, not the sentences: examiners mark memorised answers down.
