Band 8 sample answer

Band 8188 words. Every figure in the answer comes from the chart above.

The provided line graph and table illustrate the average monthly temperatures and total annual sunshine hours for London, New York, and Sydney. Overall, it is evident that New York and Sydney receive more than double the annual sunshine of London. Furthermore, while London and New York follow a similar temperature trend, Sydney exhibits a contrasting seasonal pattern due to its location in the Southern Hemisphere.

Regarding temperatures, London and New York both experience their peak heat in July, reaching approximately 23°C and 29°C respectively. Conversely, Sydney’s temperature peaks at 26°C in January and February, before declining to a low of 16°C in July. Throughout the year, London maintains a relatively moderate climate, with temperatures ranging between 8°C and 23°C. New York shows more extreme fluctuations, dropping to 4°C in January and rising to 29°C in July.

In terms of annual sunshine, the data highlights a stark disparity. New York records the highest total at 2,535 hours, closely followed by Sydney with 2,473 hours. In contrast, London receives significantly less sunlight, totalling only 1,180 hours annually, which is less than half the amount recorded in the other two cities.
