The two pie charts illustrate the distribution of electricity consumption across various sectors in Eastern Australia during the years 2007 and 2010. Overall, the data indicates that while most sectors maintained consistent energy usage, the industrial landscape underwent significant changes over the three-year period.
In both years, the residential sector was the largest consumer of electricity, accounting for 28% of the total, followed by the commercial sector at 23%. Minor sectors, including transport, agriculture, and mining, remained unchanged, contributing 1%, 1%, and 9% respectively throughout the period. These five categories collectively represented 62% of electricity consumption in both 2007 and 2010.
Conversely, the industrial sectors showed marked fluctuations. In 2007, manufacturing and aluminium each accounted for 13% of consumption, while other metals made up 12%. By 2010, the proportion of electricity used for other metals rose significantly to 18%. In contrast, the share for manufacturing dropped to 9%, and aluminium consumption also saw a decline, falling to 11%. These shifts suggest a reorganisation of industrial energy priorities within the region, despite the overall stability observed in the majority of the other sectors.
