IELTS in Tajikistan — the fee in TJS, the Dushanbe test centre and the scores your route needs

Edu Action runs IELTS on computer at 13/23 Mirzo Tursunzoda Street, Dushanbe; no other Tajik venue is listed. If your UK visa needs a Secure English Language Test, PTE Academic UKVI is available in Dushanbe for USD 210, or IELTS for UKVI costs UZS 3,119,000 at the British Council in Tashkent. The finder also lists IELTS Online for this country, an Academic test taken at home. Check that your target accepts it before you book: the University of Toronto does, but McGill's graduate programmes, UNSW and Nazarbayev University do not.

Australia's Proficient English (IELTS 7.0 each) adds 10 points and Superior (8.0 each) adds 20, achieved within three years of the visa application. Canada accepts only IELTS General Training for Express Entry, and the result must be under two years old. UK universities usually ask 6.0 to 6.5 for undergraduate and 6.5 to 7.0 for postgraduate study.

Many Central Asian students apply to Nazarbayev University in Astana, which asks for IELTS or TOEFL and does not accept PTE. Three universities we checked on their official pages:

Nazarbayev University lists IELTS or TOEFL only, accepts One Skill Retake and does not consider IELTS Online. Melbourne gives every course an English level on its course page; Level 1 is the lowest in its table, and it accepts IELTS One Skill Retake taken within 60 days. McGill does not accept PTE or IELTS Online for graduate admission.
