Overseas applicants: required scores
From MUIC's overseas students admission page, which covers Thai or foreign nationals living abroad who have never studied in Thailand:
| Test | Minimum | Score code |
|---|---|---|
| IELTS Academic | 6.0 overall, Writing 6.0 | 151143 |
| TOEFL iBT | 69 overall, Writing 22 (Writing 4.5 since 21 Jan 2026) | C186 |
| PTE Academic | 50 overall, Writing 50 | Share score electronically |
| Duolingo English Test | Not listed for overseas applicants |
Writing is the band that decides
MUIC sets a Writing minimum equal to the overall score, so IELTS 6.5 overall with 5.5 in Writing does not qualify. Order your electronic score before the application period: MUIC says processing takes about 10 days.
Overseas applicants also need SAT or ACT maths scores for most programmes (Communication Design, International Relations and Global Affairs, and Intercultural Studies and Languages are exempt), two recommendation letters, a statement of purpose and an interview.

Applicants already in Thailand
For regular applicants (Thai nationals and foreign nationals residing in Thailand) the same IELTS 6.0 and Writing 6.0 bar applies, and Duolingo 100 overall is also accepted. Regular applicants without qualifying scores sit MUIC's own entrance exam, including TOEFL ITP and essay writing tests, and an interview.
The pages we read do not offer a waiver for English-medium schooling in India, Pakistan or elsewhere for overseas applicants.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your MUIC programme page and in your admission decision, so check it there before you book a test.
