Choose a PTE preparation platform by your exam, the feedback you can use and the access you need. BandLadder, Alfa PTE, APEUni, Gurully and Pearson offer different ways to practise. A large question bank, an official diagnostic and a coached lesson serve different purposes; no single feature establishes which platform will improve your score most.

It uses providers' current public descriptions, not a controlled scoring-accuracy study or independently measured student outcomes. Prices, trials and included services can change; check the selected offer before paying.
Choose Academic or Core before choosing a platform
Start with the exact test required by your university, employer or immigration route. PTE Academic and Core are different exams. For example, Academic includes Write Essay and Summarize Group Discussion; Core includes Write Email. A platform logo saying “PTE” does not establish that its subscription includes your test version.
Compare the practice menu with Pearson's Academic Speaking and Writing format or Core Speaking and Writing format. Then try a task you actually need. Do not purchase Academic essay preparation when your immediate need is a Core email.
BandLadder: a large practice library and repeatable AI feedback
BandLadder offers a 25k+ PTE question library across Academic and Core, AI Speaking and Writing feedback, full mocks, sectional practice, study material and prediction resources. The separate IELTS collection contains 30k+ IELTS questions. These are library totals, not a promise that every question is available free or belongs to every exam version.
The standard free PTE question-practice allowance is five Speaking and two Writing AI evaluations per day, resetting at midnight India time. No card is required; these daily allowances do not expire. Promotional trial access may differ. Paid plans extend access to the self-paced platform for the chosen duration. Check PTE Academic plans or PTE Core plans for current scope.
Choose this kind of service if you want frequent independent practice and feedback to guide revisions. AI practice scores are estimates, not official Pearson results. Predictions are additional practice material, not a guarantee of future questions. The current self-paced subscription should not be mistaken for a package of dedicated mentoring or live classes.
Alfa PTE: question practice and several mock formats
Alfa PTE advertises Academic/UKVI and Core preparation, AI feedback, progress information, strategy videos and full, sectional and custom mock formats. Its subscription page distinguishes limited free access from paid access for a selected duration.
If custom practice is useful to you, inspect how questions are selected and how results are explained. Confirm your chosen exam and trial limits. A provider's accuracy claim is a marketing claim unless supported by a relevant independent validation; it is not a reason to assume your real exam score will match.
APEUni: AI practice with supporting study tools
APEUni's public site lists Speaking and Writing AI feedback, vocabulary and shadowing tools, study materials and practice records shared across web and apps. It also promotes weekly prediction material.
Check the current in-account exam menu, free scoring allowance and paid terms before selecting it. This review does not infer a current Core entitlement or a free scored-mock allowance from older help articles. Assess whether the feedback explains a specific problem in your response, rather than choosing on a predicted repeat-question percentage.
Gurully: question practice and a clearly stated free mock offer
Gurully's pricing page advertises one free PTE mock, limited free AI scoring and paid access for a selected product. Its PTE navigation separates Academic and Core, and it offers question practice alongside mock tests.
Check which exam the offer applies to, the duration and what happens to practice history when renewing. Do not treat another product's price in a multi-exam table as the PTE price. An advertised free mock is useful to test; it does not establish the accuracy of a provider's scores.
Pearson: official preparation and the new AI practice service
Pearson announced Official PTE AI Practice on 1 September 2026. It supports Academic and Core with individual questions, sectional tests, mocks and AI guidance. The announcement offers two free diagnostic tests, followed by paid preparation options.
Use the current official resources to understand the exam and its assessment expectations. Check the distinction between this service, Smart Prep materials and any separately sold scored practice tests. They are not automatically interchangeable purchases.
When coaching is the more relevant comparison
If you repeatedly misunderstand the same feedback, a human explanation may be more valuable than another question bank. Ask a prospective teacher to explain an actual response, identify a specific change and show how you will practise it. Check teacher qualifications, lesson times in your time zone, review credits and turnaround. A self-paced subscription and a course with scheduled teaching should not be compared solely by price.
Try this choice exercise
These are fictional learners. Sam has Core booked and struggles to write complete emails. Mina is preparing for Academic and needs help reporting several speakers' opinions. Both find a discounted package described only as “PTE essay coaching.” Is that enough information to buy?
Reveal the selection checks
Sam needs to confirm Core Write Email coverage and useful email feedback. Mina needs current Academic coverage, including Summarize Group Discussion, and help attributing ideas to speakers. Neither should infer relevant practice from the generic package name. Inspect the actual tasks and a feedback sample first.
