Band 8 sample answer

Band 8180 words. Every figure in the answer comes from the chart above.

The bar chart illustrates the growth of the global robotics market in billion dollars over a 25-year period, spanning from 2000 to 2025.

Overall, the market value followed a clear upward trend, starting from a relatively modest figure and expanding significantly by the end of the period. The most substantial growth occurred in the final decade, indicating a rapid acceleration in the industry's economic impact.

In 2000, the robotics market was valued at 8 billion dollars. Over the next decade, growth was steady but gradual, with the value rising to 11 billion dollars in 2005 and reaching 15 billion dollars by 2010. This represents a modest increase of 7 billion dollars over the first ten years.

From 2015, the pace of growth intensified considerably. The market value climbed to 27 billion dollars in 2015, followed by a further rise to 42 billion dollars in 2020. By 2025, the market reached its peak at 68 billion dollars. Consequently, the value of the global robotics market more than doubled between 2015 and 2025, reflecting a period of robust expansion in the sector.

Frequently asked questions

What should the overview say?+

The global robotics market experienced consistent growth throughout the period, with a particularly sharp acceleration in valuation observed from 2015 onwards.

How many words and how long for IELTS Writing Task 1?+

At least 150 words; 170 to 200 is the safe range. Spend about 20 minutes on it and leave 40 for Task 2, which carries twice the marks.

How is IELTS Writing Task 1 scored?+

On four criteria: task achievement, coherence and cohesion, vocabulary, and grammatical range and accuracy. A clear overview of the main features is what most separates Band 6 from Band 7 and above.

How do I describe bar charts?+

Compare the biggest and smallest bars before anything else. If the bars show years, describe change; if they show places, describe rank. Round sensibly and say 'just over' or 'nearly' rather than guessing decimals.
